Tenses, phrase structure and grammar

Will you, please, help and correct the following constructions.
1/ I couldn't imagine that in 1964 I would (have?) become president.
2/ They sold some items to Europeans. Then the situation changed. Still they went on selling them for a long time thereafter.

1. Both are grammatically possible, but 'would become' is likely to be the form you need.
2. Yes, all grammatical...
