Hi,

Help me with the below questions...

1. I made him do the job.->He was made to do the~
'to' is inserted in 2nd sentence. Do you know why?

2.1)Do you know what he did yesterday?
Do you tell me what he did yesterday?

2)Do you think + What did he do?
--> What do you think he did yesterday?
Do you imagine + What did he do?
--> What do yo imagine he did yesterday?

In 2) group, what is moved to the head of the sentences.
I don't know the reason 'what, who...'are moved forward in 'think, believe,imagine...verbs sentences.'

Have a nice day!

In older forms of English, even the active construction was 'make smb. TO do smth.': the 'to' has been dropped from the active construction (so that we now classify 'make' in the sense of 'force' as a causative verb), but retained in the more rarely used passive, hence the obligatory 'to' in this case.

You are comparing two different types of sentence!

It's quite possible - if not especially common - to form sentences with 'know' and 'say' in the same way as the second set:

What do you know (that) he did yesterday?

as compared with e.g.

What do you simply THINK (that) he did yesterday?

Similarly

What do you say (that) he did yesterday?

as compared with e.g.

And what does SHE say (that) he did yesterday?

and so forth.
