modal verbs - which one to choose

Post by Ultra »

We ____ meat but we have already had this week.
a) are able to have; b) can have; c) are to have ; d) may have; e) all the above variants are wrong.

Variant b) and d) seems to me both quite possible. Then what shall I choose?

I thought you __2__ like a change?
2. a) could; b) can; c) might; d) may; e) all the above variants are wrong

would is the only variant possible? so the answer is e), isn't it?

(d), whether interpreted as denoting speculation or permission, is unlikely. (b) is probably the intended answer.

(c) fits here. (N.B. No question mark is needed.)
