Hello, I've got a question related with relative pronouns ; between defining relative pronoun and non-defining pronoun.

Please, look at the following two sentences, and answer my question.

1. I visited the girl who sent me a present.

2. I visited the girl, who sent me a present.

Please, tell me the differences between them.
Thank you, waiting for your reply.

In #1, the clause serves vitally to distinguish one girl (the one who sent you a present) from other girls that you may have been discussing.

In the second, however, there is only one girl under discussion, and the clause serves to add the information about the present simply as an incidental piece of information.
