Is the use of "otherwise" as an adjective correct in the following sentence :

"Only parents are allowed in, otherwise, the gate remains locked."

'Otherwise' is an adverb, not an adjective, but your sentence is fine as long as you change the comma before it into a semi-colon (since 'otherwise' does not function as a clause-connector).
