Fly through the stuff

Post by pdh0224 »

Dear teacher,

"The most popular one is Cap'n Crunch, by far," he said. "And if you put Cocoa Puffs and Fruity Pebbles out, they fly through the stuff."

Q : I guess the bold portion means it is sold out as immediately as it was on sale. Does it an idiom? I believe the phrase express the occassion that many people wanting the stuff rush to the stuff like a baseball player trying to catch a ball far away from him by flying to there.

What do you think?

I cannot say for sure without further contxtual information, but it apears to be a reference to speed of eating. 'Fly through the stuff' probably means here 'eat extremely quickly'.
