would

Post by hanuman_2000 »

Sir,

I have read some dictionary and on some webs(internet) about the usage of "would".

1. "would is used for request".

2."would for past habit"
3." would you like,prefer,love".
4."would past tense of will" like I thought that he would...."
5.Conditional statement like "if I won a car,I would ....."

"would is also used for suggestion and probabality"

but I could not understand that concept.

would you please help me to know more usage of "would" in present context. Please give me some day to day example.

I would be very grateful to you.

Thanks.

Your question is rather general, but concerning the specific points that you do not understand:

'Would' for suggestion:

I would go and talk to him (if I were you).

'Would' for probability:

That would be my father that spoke to you.

(= I expect that it was...).

I'm sure that if you search online, you will find plenty of examples of other ways of using 'would'.

Good hunting!
