he for bird

Sir,


A crow was very thirsty.He looked for water here and there.


Here "he" has been used for "crow" ,but as it was taught to me that we generally use "it" for animals and birds.


Would you please clear my doubt.

Yes, generally we do use 'it', but it is not a strict rule. Especially in a children's story, 'he' and 'she' are more likely, since animal protagonists are normally represented as human-like.
