Had got?

Post by surgeon » Mon May 14, 2012 2:15 pm

I was taught that "got" is not used with "have" in the past like "I had got a car", but the book "Oxford guide to english grammar" says that it is possible although a bit unusual. So I got confused whether it could be used or not and when.
Thank you in advance!

I personally cannot think of a single natural instance of using 'had got' to mean simply 'had'.
I would suggest that you simply avoid it!
