Hi, I have an english exam to pass next month and I will have some "Identify the following constructions and comment briefly" type of exercices. But I don't really know how to answer them and what my teacher expect me to answer...
For example:
- We needn't have translated the passage.
- They might have told us that the road was blocked.
- I was wondering if you could give me a lift.
I can explain what the underline part means but identify the constructions, like if it is a simple or complexe sentence ?
And by the way, when I'm being asked to identify the function it is Subject, Direct Object, Adjective,... and part of speech it is det., noun, verbs, prep,... Right ?
Thanks, bye !

I would respectfully suggest that if you need to ask such basic questions, you are simply not ready to take the test!
I would suggest going to your teacher to obtain some detailed guidance on the terminology you are likely to encounter in the examination!
