Imperatives and its usage

I'm preparing a poster for an upcoming class. Can you please advise if the sentences below are gramatically sound?
Want to undestand what the people around you are saying?
Want to speak with confidence?
Then join us now!
Someone commented that using want and then at the beginning of the sentence is bad English but I beg to differ but I just can't explain it.
It has something to do with imperatives and its usage.....
