I am confused with the following sentences:
1. A lot of books are/is here.
2. Lot of books are/is here.
3. Lots of book is/are here.
Please I need comprehensive explanation on the above-stated. The verbs are confusing me a lot.

Only 1 & 3 are possible and both should be plural (are).
