Please could I ask if the following underlined sentence is correct in this context? I thought it was as it is a natural transition. I was told I should use fanboys?

Actually it is not correct, but should be rewritten as two sentences:
--> Therefore, this course is not to be taken lightly. It requires a lot of focus and dedication to learning.
--> Therefore, this course is not to be taken lightly. It requires a lot of focus and dedication to learning.
