Zero Conditional

Post by McKinney »

Hi, can you tell me if the following sentence is a zero conditional?

If you have a problem, tell me.

I'm confused because I thought I need "will" for something real/a 1st conditional. Is this like a fact, so it's zero? Is it like "If you have time, call me."

Thank you!

Structurally/technically, yes, although it could, depending on context, function as a 1st conditional (i.e. relating to a specific future possibility as opposed to a permanently-existing one.)

Not really worth debating!
