Being

Post by Jignesh »

Being his usual energetic self, Ranveer shook a leg at the promotional event and also met up with his fans.I read this interview on Rediff.com.What part of speech does " being" belong to? And what does it modify in the sentence? I read about reduced adverbial but this phrase does not fall into that. Is it an adjective or adverb?

The word 'being' itself here is a present (a.k.a. active) participle, adjectivally premodifying the subject 'Ranveer'.

However, in common with most preposed participle phrases, the phrase that it introduces ("Being...self") has an adverbial sense, i.e. = Since he was....'
