Sports activities grammar

Post by Helenstudent »

Good afternoon))
Can you help me a little with English grammar?

Which of the following sentences is correct?
"1) "Where do you skate?"
Or
2) "where do you go skating?"
According to my textbook the fist sentence is ok, but my teacher says that it's wrong and the only acceptable translation is the second one.
Is she right?
I've googled the first phrase and have found a lot of such sentences written by native speakers in different contexts.
Is it possible that the second version used to be the only right one but in modern English both examples are used interchangeably?
Or is the first sentence still incorrect?

Thank you in advance)

The first sentence is not "wrong" in the sense of ungrammatical, but simply unidiomatic.
Either is possible.
