Use of conditionals

Post by analyst »

Hello Alan ,

I am little confused between the use of conditionals as follows :

1.This would not have been possible had I stayed at my job and not failed at my first company.

2.This would not have been possible if I stayed at my job and not failed at my first company.

Please explain which one is correct to use.

Thanks.

The first.

An unreal past situation is expressed by the past perfect, not the simple past tense.
