This is the sentence from a grammar book by Quirk.
Here , I think the event is only one, still 'recently' has been used.

Yes, this combination of [present perfect + recently] is perfectly possible even in the case of a single event, although this kind of usage is generally restricted to BrE. AmE speakers would prefer "I saw her recently".
