hardly-when

Post by hanuman_2000 »

Hello,

1. As soon as the thief ran out of jail, the guard fired at him.

I have to rewrite the above sentence using 'hardly...... when'.

A. The thief had hardly run out of jail when the guard fired at him.

B. The thief hardly ran out of jail when the guard fired at him.

Which one is correct?

Thanks.
