relative pronouns

Postby Lone » Wed Aug 23, 2017 1:38 am

Dear Alan,

"In its ultimate essence, energy may be incomprehensible by us except as an exhibition of the direct operation of that what we call Mind or Will."

Earlier you told me 'that what' in the above should be changed to 'that which'. Could you tell me why?

Many thanks!

Lone

Except in uneducated speech, 'what' does not function in English as an adnominal relative pronoun.

I suggest that you thoroughly review the use of relative pronouns before posting nay further questions on this topic.
