1) The building was destroyed using modern explosives.
2) The building was destroyed, using modern explosives.

3) This painting was painted applying paint with a spray.
4) This painting was painted by John applying paint with a spray.

5) Tim was shot by his cousin standing in the doorway.
6) Tim was shot by his cousin, standing in the doorway.


Are 1-4 correct?

Are '5' and '6' correct if his cousin was standing in the doorway?

(1) possible but the comma in (2) is redundant, and (6) would imply that Tim was the one standing in the doorway.
