Dear teacher,
I am confused. When should we put a "was" before "adjourned" and when should we drop it?
1. The meeting was adjourned until Tuesday. (Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)
2. The meeting adjourned at 4:00. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
Adjourned

Re: Adjourned
Both are possible in contemporary usage, although the passive form (was adjourned) is more common.
