Would Vs Will

Post by Brahman »

Dear teachers,

I have a question concerning the use of "will" and "would" when we are talking about something that is to happen in the future. For instance, in the following sentence, I am inclined to use "would" instead of "will": my reason for my choice of the modal verb is, the sentence in question is in the conditional. Am I right to say that?

"As I mentioned, when we complete chapter 6, we would have, in effect, completed the basic philosophy concerning life in...."

Thank you

It is not a conditional but a simple future perfect: 'will' is needed instead of 'would'.
