Present or past tense
Suppose I meet my friend on one morning at 9 AM (during school time). Which sentence should I say to him? "My son does not go to school today" or "My son did not go to school today" If I meet him at 6 P.M, of course, I should use past tense (my son did not go to school today), but I meet him at 9 AM during school time. What should I say to him?

Re: Present or past tense
'Did not...' would be normal in either case, so long as the school day has actually started.
Otherwise, '...is not going to school today'.
Otherwise, '...is not going to school today'.
