My reason to reject [a view]

Post by eve » Sat Mar 24, 2018 6:25 pm

I wrote "My reason to reject [a view] is that..." and a native speaker (but not a linguist) corrected it to "My reason for rejecting [a view] is that..." What, if anything, is wrong with what I originally wrote?

It is simply a matter of correct constructions.

We say 'a reason FOR something' and, similarly, a 'reason FOR DOING smth.'

In certain cases there may be an alternative infinitive construction, but not in this case.
