why don't we use comma after this sentence?

Post by xyzabc »

hello, i am new here. Thank you for having this forum. I have been reading several textbooks recently, and i noticed that some sentences are not using comma, not like what i thought it should be. Here is my confusion:

"As the gas mixture passes through the column the various component gases are slowed down accordingly to their solubility".

i am confuse. Don't we need to add comma after word "the collumn" since it is followed by an independent clause ("the various component...")?

please help..thank you

regards,Joe

Not strictly a grammar point, but... yes, a comma would be normal in that sentence-position.
