Prepositional Phrases, Adverbial or Adjectivial?

Post by rhemyone »

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue reading this sentence:

You will be paid a minimum of 3hrs at 1.5 or overtime pay for actual hours worked.

The main issue is what part of speech is “for actual hours worked” and what does it modify. If it is an adverbial phrase it would modify the word paid (the verb). If it is an adjectival phrase, it would modify the word pay (the noun). I can’t find the answer online so I’d like to open it up to the forum.

Any insight would be great!

The phrase is adverbial, modifying 'will be paid'.
