In this sentence, is there any difference between consequently and consequentially?

One by one, the synapses cease to transmit their messages and, _________, the muscles stop working.

I answered "consequently", but the answer listed in the book was "consequentially".

'Consequently' is the appropriate choice.

The word 'consequentially' is almost completely disused in contemporary parlance.
