Question Tag

Post by LEagle »

Hi! I came across an example sentence on this Page.
👉"Cristiano's improving, is he?"
"No doubt about it. He's scored three goals in our last three games."

Is the question tag here, Ok? Should'nt be 'isn't he'

Thank you.

Actually, both are possible, although they are intoned differently.

The (standard) negative tag is used when confident of the truth of the assertion and simply attempting to elicit agreement, whereas the positive tag (as used here) indicates uncertainty and therefore seeks to elicit confirmation.
