Hello,
yesterday as I was learning new vocabulary, I came across a sentence in Cambridge Dictionary:
Steiner was recognized as an original if unorthodox thinker.
I wonder whether I could paraphrase it into: "Steiner was recognized as an original, if not unorthodox, thinker."
I feel that there's something missing, though. Could anyone please help me with this one? Thank you in advance!
If not + an adjective interjection.

No!
"If" here means 'although/albeit'.
