I have made up the sentences below.

(1) Today is the fifth day I have volunteered to clean the streets. I need two more days to receive a certifcation of appreciation.

(2) Today is the fifth day I am volunteering to clean the streets. I need two more days to receive a certifcation of appreciation.

My friends are not native English speakers. They think both are correct. You would use the 1st one if you just finished the cleaning. The 2nd one works when you say that before you start your cleaning.

Do you think both tenses really work in this context? Thank you very much for your help.

Only (1) is acceptable.
