have her friends (to) stay

Post by paracompact »

(1) The very idea/thought of having her friends to stay fills me with dread.
[From Cambridge Dictionary.]

(2) The very idea/thought of having her friends stay fills me with dread.

Question: Is (2) correct? If so, do (1) and (2) have the same meaning?

Both constructions exist, with very similar meanings.
