more than

Post by azz »

a. They were more than us.

Is that sentence grammatically correct?

Logically it might make sense, but I find it incorrect. I always say
There were more of them than us.
or
They were more numerous than us.
or
They were greater in number than us.

Many thanks

No, it does not make sense and is not acceptable as a sentence of English.

If you mean 'more numerous/greater in number', then that is precisely what you must say.
