a. To do the job well needs a lot of time.
b. It needs a lot of time to do the job well.
c. To do the job well requires a lot of time.
d. It requires a lot of time to do the job well.
Are all of the above sentences correct?
For some reason, the first two, especially (b), sound strange to me and the last two don't. But logically they should all work.
I think in my mind 'need' is associated with living things. Maybe that's why I don't like the first two.
