What kind of adverb is 'approximately'?

Post by Fungle »

Hello.

Does anybody know what we call the group of adverbs such as roughly, approximately, exactly, and precisely?

Thank you.

As far as I'm aware there is no universally accepted name for this group, but, on the basis of Quirk et al.'s adverbial classification system, if pressed for a suitable label, I would term them 'precision subjuncts'.
