Post by Rustamsher »

Hello, dear teacher!

The boy Roger arrived home with the measles.

The sentence was taken from some work of one of the native English writers.

I wonder why the author used the definite article at the beginning of the sentence.

Likewise, can I use "the boy Oliver, the boy Lucas, the girl Ann etc.

Many thanks.

There is nothing exceptional about this usage.

It means simply 'the boy whose name was Roger'.
