Which are correct in formal English and which can be used only in casual conversation:
1) A friend of mine's wife came here yesterday.
2) One of my friend's wife came here yesterday.
3) One of my friends' wives came here yesterday,
4) The wife of one of my friends came here yesterday.
5) The wife of a friend of mine came here yesterday.
I am pretty sure that the last two are good.
Gratefully,
Navi

Only 4 & 5 are formally correct.
