"Nobody else is stronger than i am"

Post by Piebe »

Goodday, fellow English learners and teachers.

There is a sentence that has been bugging me for a while now. Everyone i ask doesn't see the problem, but i can't seem to let it go.

"Nobody else is stronger than i am".

To my mind, this would mean that there is at least ONE person stronger than me, but nobody else is stronger. Of course, it's meant to imply that i am the strongest.

Shouldn't "Nobody is stronger than i am" be the only correct sentence?

I await your judgement and would love a link to an article that explains why "nobody else" would be wrong.

Sincerely yours,

Piebe

Yes, 'else' here is quite redundant unless, as you say, there is at least one other contender.
