Adjunct as a phrase

Post by learnerWilhelm »

Hello,

If you have a sentence like this: "He did it in a way to be happy."

1. is "in a way to be happy" your adjunct?
2. Could you rewrite it to "In a way to be happy, He did it"

We would not say this.

If you mean,

He did it in such a way as to be happy.

then the underlined part would be an adverbial adjunct of purpose.
