subject-verb agreement: a second group was/were?

Post by coronavirus »

Hello, Allan.

Is the following sentence grammatically correct?

"In the study, this was done by employing a second group that were offered the same choices plus one more."

Thank you for your help.

Yes, although only for BrE users. AmE users would prefer 'was' (singular).
