Which one is correct and why?

Context: her boyfriend just arrived and she doesn't want to see him.
1 - Mom to daughter: He drove 1 thousand kilometres just to see you. Aren't you going there?
2 - Mom to daughter: He has driven 1 thousand kilometres just to see you. Aren't you going there?
