I have made up the example below.
(1) Jack asks me, "Long time no see. Nice to see you on the street. Where are you going?"
(a) I reply, "I am going for a walk."
Most of my non-native English speaking friends think "going for a walk" is wrong because you are walking around outside. It should be rephased to make the construction below.
(b) I reply, "I am taking a walk."
If you are in the middle of your walk, do you say, "going for or taking a walk."? Thank you for your help.

(Not grammar but...) yes, 'taking a walk' would be slightly more natural in context
