I love the plays, but I can't read the books. They're too mushy to me, and I don't like old English.illusion wrote:and as for me I am also a huge fan of Shakespeare's works. My beloved hamlet ahhhhhhhhh:D
What is your favourite book?

It's difficult enough to name some exact favourite authors and their books... You know, all those Russian with their classics, some English, French, German, American.... I love a lot of books... I don't have 1 favourite book... It can change every time I read something new and unknown! The last book I like very VERY much was if I am right Ien Benks "Street of Despair" I may give the wrong title, i read it in Russian, but I liked it... I simply like all his books very much ))

Hi, I'm new to this forum!
Hmm, I'm happy that I can see so many people who like books! Very good!!
I like russian authors, as well! I've just read Crime and Punishment, it was not bad, however I didn't expect such ending..
Do you like horrors? I like Stephen King's books, however I think sometimes he exaggerates..
The best books ever are Birdy by William Wharton and Behind the Glass Wall by Robert Merle.

Hi LittleA. I is so nice to find a twin soul so far. When I read "Crime and Punishment" I had a disappointment. too. But not only in the ending, I felt in the middle of the book that the history was turning bored.LittleA wrote: I like russian authors, as well! I love Stephen King. The last book of him I read was:
"The Long Walk".
I am going to read the books you recommended.
My prefer books is: "Ensayo sobre la ceguera" by Saramago.

Hi,
Yes, you also felt that feeling in the end? It was too nice, too stereotyped!! Or if he really wanted to finish like this, he shouldn't have it explained in so many words (ok, it wasn't SO many, but it was too much), he should have only referred that maybe they will realize that they love each other.
Oh, it's so nice, that you want to read what I liked! :) It's worth to read them, especially the Birdy.
Is Saramago spanish?

OMG! In 1998, he won the Nobel prize. That year, I started college, and in a subject called "Literary Theory" (such a bore, actually) I had to read one of his novels! It was sooooooooooo dull... I haven't read any other of his books...Silvita wrote:No, Saramago is from Portugal. I read the book in Spanish, and is a very good novel. Saramago is a Novel award, so I think you can find the novel in your mother language.

Ok, thanks for the informations! I like to read foreign authors' writings. Their words (even if I read it translated) have other kind of taste.. very interesting thing.
I know, that nobody knows this writer because he is hungarian, but he is very, very good, his name is Karinthy, and he could write SO funny novels :D When I'm sad, I just have to read one of his stories, and I will be on the ground because of laughing on his jokes.

it seems very interesting. i love reading essays about philosophy in tv shows cuz you realise that you can find influences of philosophy in everything or, at least, you see things about your favourite characters that you hadn't seen before.guigamf11 wrote:I am reading a book very good... "The Simspons and Philosophy", or something like that... ( i am brazilian, so i tried to translate to english the book title. Any word wrong, plz, say. ) This book talks about philosophers, like Nietzche, Aristoteles, and others, comparing their ideals with the characters of "The Simspons", like Bart Simpson with Friedrich Nietzche. Good book...

I'm going to go mainstream here. I've never read an entire book twice becasue of one fundamental belief of mine: life is short and books abound. However, I've read 'Jurassic Park' (Michael Crichton) twice and seen the movie more times than I'd like to acknowledge
Maybe it's the dinosaurs that do it for me, maybe it was John Williams scores for the movie that made it unforgettable but I just love that book.

One of the best books in the world literature to my mind!
I have seen: from one hand i was happy finally to be able to watch, not only to read, on the other hand the movie looked cheap, like the Satana's ball and Margarita's flight abobe Moscow and so on. It could be better i suppose, but i liked the main characters and i guess the cat was terrific! the exact cat! also Master is boring, Voland unattractive (i was about to fall in love while reading... )
Anyhow i've bought dvds...

I'm sorry :DCypress wrote: Instead of making fun you mean girl , why don't you explain why it's wrong to say it that way?
Well, maybe I'm wrong, but your post just reminded me of one specific day in my first college year... A professor told us that desire and wish had completely different meanings in English... You know... like desire implied sexual connotations. When you said you had a strong desire to hug it I just couldn't help it... sorry again :D
Please somebody correct me if I am wrong!!!

I want to watch it too as it's one of my favourite books. And, yes, I think it's almost impossible to act this book. Extremely difficult!
So that's why maybe we shouldn't be too stern?!
No, you're right! We should be very stern!!! 8)
