Thanks for the topic.
I really hate smokers. They not just cause themslves to cancer
but also hurt other people.
I think it is really necessary for the government to ban smoking
in public places especially where there are a lot of women and children.Even at home smokers should smoke in a special room for them where there are no one but smokers.
:?: How many countries do you know in which smoking is banned?

In Italy a rather recent law bans smoking in public places (restaurants, shops, offices, etc.).
Smokers say they feel emarginated, but I think it's a great thing, because in the last months cigarette sellings have been reduced and this is good both for smokers' and non-smokers' health.

haven't you noticed how smoking is becoming a bigger and bigger problem with time? Personally I think it only means that many people finally realises how dangerous and harmful it is for the society. What if the whole world smoked... can you imagine what would it look like in some 10 years? An utter disaster! We should appeal as much as we can to stop as many people smoking as it is possible. It's for the whole health of the earth and its population! smoking should be banned worldwide! amen!

Many problems are taking a worrying extent, they are becoming "social".

The problem is the addiction, or even the habit without addiction. (habit is, in some meaning, an addiction).

- smoking
- drinking alcohol
- watching tv
- watching porno
- consuming any drug (cocaïn, LSD, etc.) [in popular talking, "drug" can mean any thing that you become addicted to, not only real drugs]
- playing video games
- foruming
- tchatching
- obedience (becoming slave of any person)
- money games (games with stake which people, society or culture gives credibility/value to)
- money (earning money, or not giving any money, avarice)
- etc.

Let us think about difference between habit and addiction.

Habits change.

Addiction make you prisonner.

Badly, sadly, pity, many people don't care about it.

And they waste time and money and energy in too many useless things.

Yes, I think more about the global than the local.... maybe for the compensation against the "excès" in individualimus.

Inform yourself by google (or libraries in your country).

About ccuntries that interest you.
About sciences that interest you.
About society problems that seems you important.

Think about how you can change it, how you can act.

You know to me it is a choice. I smoke. GOD help me! I know everyone looks upon smokers as leppers these day. We are excluded from everywhere. When I'm ready to give it up I will, but I hate all the hype about it. As I said it is a choice; if you choose not to smoke good for you; if I choose to smoke it is none of your business.

why are people so obsessed with smokers? It is useless to discriminate people as smokers and non-smokers. I don't smoke, and I also think that there must be smoking and non-smoking areas in public, but it is a personal choice and it is legal. If people enjoy smoking, let them smoke, instead of hating them.

hey, kids!
It took me long to find this topic. I'll say why.

Yesterday in the Parliament the memebers have started the discussion whether Russian Federation should join the WHO FCTC - Framework Convention on Tobacco Control

I'm not a smoker, suppose hardly will ever be. Without any concern about others I pay no attention to other people's habits... what for actually, but government does... to my surprise!

yes, smoking should be kicked off, because of its bad ingredients. once we form into addiction, it must bring many illness on us. the lung cancer is the outstanting resulting from smoking. however, man should encounter more serious pressure in daily life, they should seek some outlet to make them relax. most of them choose smooking ,the others tend to drinking. but another group of persons like smoking and drinking. which are all bad for the health. so how to cope with their addiction. in my minds, as a man, he can drink some alcohol during his dinner, which can offer some good ingredient for him, and can help the drinker more relax. however smoking must be kick off firmly, which is not only bad for smoker, but also not good for the people nearby.

Before 2008 we could watch RTR and Channel 1 here, but they were all blocked for non-payment from Russian's side as stupid officials say here. I personally don't watch local stupid channels any more. I've bought satellite in order to watch Russian channels, and I know many people who did the same since the channels were blocked. (местные каналы просто ужас, ни одной нормальной передачи нет)

And we're complaining here that there is nothing to watch on TV! Well, I suppose there are just three channles that are possible to be watched and evade spitting - Sport, 2x2 (cartoons rock) and Culture channel 8) and I'm not that picky as you think

Smoking is a practice where a substance, most commonly tobacco, is burned and the smoke tasted or inhaled.Women who smoke increase their risk of dying from lung cancer by nearly 12 times and the risk of dying from bronchitis and emphysema by more than 10 times. Between 1960 and 1990, deaths from lung cancer among women have increased by more than 400%--exceeding breast cancer deaths in the mid-1980s.(Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report 1993;42(44)) The American Cancer Society predicts that 80,000 women will develop lung cancer this year and 67,000 will die from it, as compared to 43,500 deaths from breast cancer.

Men who smoke increase their risk of death from lung cancer by more than 22 times and from bronchitis and emphysema by nearly 10 times. Smoking triples the risk of dying from heart disease among middle-aged men and women.(CDC Smoking-attributable mortality and years of potential life lost--United States, 1990. Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report 1993;42(33):645-8.)

If u smoke a ciggarete u lose 15 minutes of ur life,nd 4 minutes of persons that r with u.

hello
Smoking is the the inhalation of smoke from burned dried or cured leaves of the tobacco plant. Generally People smoke for pleasure, for ritualistic or social purposes, or for self-medication, as well as to satisfy a physiological dependence on nicotine. Everyone knows that smoking is injurious to health. The main health risks in tobacco pertain to diseases of the cardiovascular system, in particular myocardial infarction (heart attack), diseases of the respiratory tract such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, and cancer, particularly lung cancer and cancers of the larynx and tongue. Passive or involuntary smoking occurs when the exhaled and ambient smoke (otherwise known as environmental or secondhand smoke) from one person’s cigarette is inhaled by other people. Passive smoking involves inhaling carcinogens, as well as other toxic components, that are present in secondhand tobacco smoke.
