"the monkeys have hit the button"

I saw this "the monkeys have hit the button" on a website(from http://www.cairoshell.com/),I guess that it means that the deadline is coming,but I don't know the exact meaning,who can help me with it?

The term “the monkeys have hit the button” usually means that a process has been set in motion that cannot be stopped. In most cases, the expected outcome will be bad. But in either case, it means the process has started. I hope this is helpful in your understanding of the statement you read. Do you have the context of this statement?
