Come to grips with vs Get to grips with

Postby majidkh » Mon Mar 30, 2009 12:34 am

Hello

Would you please tell me the difference between the two expressions:
Which one is most heard in the US and in Britain and do they convey the same meaning.

-Come to grips with a problem,...

-Get to grips with a problem,...

Thanks a lot.

As far as I know, "come to grips with something" and "get to grips with something" have the same meaning. They both mean "to deal with something difficult".

Hi

I would like to know about the frequency of usage of the two idioms in both the USA and UK .An American native told me that the "Get to grips with" is of little usage over there
If so ,What about UK?

Regards.

The term, “Come to grips with a problem”, is the one commonly used in the U.S. We would not use the term, “Get to grips with a problem”.

Get to grips with is common in British English.
