Learning English

Post by asantoz »

Dear friends,

I may have the same problem as meryem. I live in a country where our mother language is not english. Although I have been learning english for 4 years and have been actively using it for the last 2 years, I am still finding difficulties in communication, especially when I am having arguments with foreigner. As you know, when you are having arguments, you have to think fast enough.

I feel that I have to put more efforts harder than our fellow whose mother language is English. There are 5 stages that I feel I have to pass through:
(1). I have to listen
(2). I have to understand the message (sometimes by translating it into our own language)
(3). Think how to answer
(4).Translate it back to English
(5). Then speak out.

On the other hand, our counterpart only have work with 3 stages (listen, find answer and speak out). They dont have to translate it whatsoever because they can understand it automatically.

Pls advise whether you give advice on how to overcome my problems.

Many thanks.

Cheers,

Dear friends,

Sorry for saying that the 7 secrets are from http://www.englishbaby.com . It’s right here in our http://www.englishclub.com . Let me reveal them here in brief becuz of the 5 stages Asantoz wrote above. If u think it’s necessary u should sign up for the full newsletter. U will receive them seperately on the first 7 days, then a whole copy of all in one mail to use it more conveniently. After that, the site will continue send u some other English sources, sometimes – not everyday, and u may like them.
1- Learn about word stress.
2- Sentence stress
3- Listen
4- Don’t listen
5- 5 words a day
6- 30 mins/day better than 3.5 hour/week
7- Revise

If u want to learn a perfect English, these secrets r very helpful.
If u need to (i don’t think u want to) learn English quickly, u should focus on the required skills. Anyway for a new learner as Ilknur, Grammar is the first priority.

U don’t have to travel too far, explore this http://www.englishclub.com itself.

Asantoz, u can also do what native speakers do : don’t waste time translate ur thoughts in ur language into English. If u could learn the way to think in English u would react much faster. Notice us when u win in an argument with an Englishman/ American, ok ? In fact i don’t think it ALL depends on ur fluency in English.
