Who is your favourite author?
Each author has his/her own writing style so it's quite hard to say who is better. I admire many authors and Jack London is my most favourite author. I specially like his style, a bit wild, a bit bitter, a bit cold...All senses are combined in his novels. The call of the wild gives me the greatest impression.

In fact, He got the literature Nobel Prize for "Les mots" but he refused it. He said, in french, it was because : "aucun homme ne mérite d'être consacré de son vivant" that is to say, in english (if I don't make mistakes ) > no man who lives deserves to be consecrated.Dixie wrote: I didn't know he had refused it Did he say why?
I presume that he was really an interesting person :)

Great authors....mine anyway.
I love the books by Tuesday Lobsang Rampa such as the first one known as The Third Eye about growing up in Tibet. I love Anais Nin. I have enjoyed Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code But he is average to me as a writer. I loved the Narnia Cronicles when I was a young-person... by C.S. Lewis ( a great man) Stephen King is good as a writer but I dispise being scared or grossed out so... he is not for me, but for those who like being scared out of their wits he is very good! And I really did enjoy watching The Stand on the tele...(based on his book) mostly because I thought it was important...thought provoking work.
I love the writers who take you into the story and hold you like you are in a warm bath...and in another world...there are so many!
I really dont like T.C. Boyle (what a jerk!) his book Drop City was about hippies and he got it all so wrong (i would know) the only great thing about it is the cover photograph which I love! I hated the way he ruined his story Tortilla Curtain too, it had so much potential to be a good story.
...another book to avoid is Three Naughty French Novels this book made me feel so sick to my stomach! I hated it so much that I threw away the book before finishing it and I have never thrown away a book in my life! It was utterly disgusting and sick...no you wont like it..believe me!
I love erotic writing such as Anais Nins work... but that book of short stories was just very awful and so nasty... it is more about mixing sex with death and with uggghhh! Nevermind ...it's just repulsive.
I prefer to read about Tibet, and things that inspire a person... and Patrick French did a great book about Tibet, called Tibet,Tibet.
Voltaire's Candide is a classic book that I really enjoyed.
Well i have said enough!

I am a big Jack London fan too. Martin Eden is my favorite novel._Arale_ wrote:I admire many authors and Jack London is my most favourite author. I visited Jack London ranch in Glen Ellen, California last year. It was so awesome to see where the great man lived and worked.
When I was younger, I enjoyed reading Alexander Dumas, Jules Verne, Robert Louis Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Agatha Christie.
Now, when I am older and far away from my native country, I take great pleasure in reading Russian writers such as Tolstoy, Gogol, Pushkin, Dostoevskiy, and others.
There is one book that I really want to read. It is Don Quixote by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra. I was forced to read it in the seventh grade, and I just hated it. But I think I might actually enjoy it now.

My favorite recent book is The Glass Castle...by Jeannette Walls...you can find it in Amazon.com, barely used, for a great price and it is amazing for the true story of a poor american family. Although it is incredibly odd the family is not all that unusual in this quirky country. Her parents were not quite right in the head, her mom fairly nuts and her dad was a major alcoholic. The writer had a very rough childhood but she takes you in and you understand how it made her the strong woman she becomes. I cant wait for more stories from this woman/author....maybe you will check it out!

It is an incredible read...the girl went through nearly freezing for a few winters because the moneys were spent on alcohol insted of heating the home during the snows/cold of some winters...also the children nearly starved to death too... while the parents told them that their life was pretty good and such, the story is just tragic but very very interesting because the parents were also sort of intelligent...just very neglectful/abusive....her brother slept under a raft for like two years to avoid a leak in his room during rains....things like that.

I've read No One Writes to the Colonel. It was so sad. It is one of the most heartbreaking stories I’ve ever read. I felt so sorry for the colonel, and I hoped he will get his pension :(ozzy wrote:My favourite author is Gabriel Garcia Marquez(GABO). I definetly recommend reading his books. Oh, don’t feel bad, but tell us why you like this author so much. Is he from your native country? Or do you just like his writing style? Or maybe you’re interested in the subjects he writes about.ozzy wrote: Cypress, I feel so bad :( . I wrote "Gabo is my favourite author".
