39.000 mortal victims by now.
Re: Earthquake in China
This is certainly a tragedy for all those who lost their lives and loved ones, or who have been injured or lost their homes. However, I fear it may not have been a "natural disaster" at all, but a disaster prompted by Man's greed. The Three Gorges Dam lies just 350 miles to the east of the epicentre. It is well know that the huge body of water built up behind the dam is heavy enough to shift the Earth on its axis. Triggering an earthquake a few hundred miles away should therefore be child's play for that body of water.

Re: Earthquake in China
I cried so much to see what the Burmese people have been going through such as the killings in the protest and the cyclone. And I had to shed more tears for victims of this earthquake. It broke my heart to read or see pictures of parents who were collapsing on the ground when they saw the bodies of their children. Some of them even said they felt horrible that the last thing they ended with their kids was a fight. And some even blamed themselves that if they didn't force their kids to go to school that morning when the kids wanted to stay home, they wouldn't have died. I said to myself, "oh no, please, don't! You have done nothing wrong to blame yourself. All you did was being a parent. Blame your government!" The buildings were not up-to-date. They were supposed to be one-story high, but corrupted people made them into two.Player wrote:This is certainly a tragedy for all those who lost their lives and loved ones, or who have been injured or lost their homes. Re: Earthquake in China
Nah, I don't think so. They are not afraid of bad publicity as they see this tragic event is a way to unite Chinese people together. In fact, they want the press to cover this story even more (now and after), which can overshadow the inhuman stories in Tibet and get a great sympathy from others. For instance, although some Chinese are united to stand against the pro-Tibet activists, they still feel the press are not with them. This earthquake makes all the protesters go away. The world is now just watching Chinese parents with griefs, something that touches everyone's heart, ya know. Also, the earthquake is a natural disaster, but total death toll is human fault. The thing is, you don't see many of them blame their government for what happened to the death ones, do you? It shows their loyalty and patriotism to their country (even though it's quite blindly loyalty in my opinion); it's their way to show no one can shoot the united Chinese down with opinions and protests.ohad wrote:I have the feeling China let the press enter their country and cover the quake event only because of the Olympiad , probably they are afraid of negetive public opinion which they afraid might influance badly the olympic games. When the Olympiad finishes, I doubt if we see the same, if at all, coverage.Poor people.

Re: Earthquake in China
I think the city where the earthquake hit China in 2008 was Sichuan. I want to add because there was no information about the city in this thread.

Re: Earthquake in China
Ten years ago, In SiChuan Province of China, there was an earthquake. It's really sad that I mentioned again and feel very upset for the people who lost their life. There are many moving events happened in that earthquake. Such as the teacher used her body to protect the students and she was heated by the rock......

Hi, everyone!
:( It was an unfortunate event indeed. Many people lost their loved ones, and even after 10 years after, they haven't been able to get over this tragic loss.
Would you say your city/hometown would be ready to cope with a natural disaster such as an earthquake? How about SiChuan, after the years?
