call off vs put off ??

Could you please tell me the differences in usage between:

CALL OFF and PUT OFF

If you call something off you cancel it.
If you put something off you postpone it.

Examples:
The game was called off so we'll never know who would have won.
The game was put off until next week.

What is more correct: "I always put things off until the last minute" or "I always put things off for the last minute"?
