If you call something off you cancel it.
If you put something off you postpone it.

Examples:
The game was called off so we'll never know who would have won.
The game was put off until next week.

On this same topic, I have a similiar question.

What is more correct: "I always put things off until the last minute" or "I always put things off for the last minute"?
I thank you in advance. Keep up the good work. We appreciate this very much.
David

Idiom of the day - "I was planning to do some procrastinating today, but I decided to put it off until tomorrow." :-)

Thanks again, David

"until" is correct (not more correct)
